ANEW E
NTITY....
On
March 10, 2003, The Institute for Advanced Physics
officially became a federal entity. On
March 14, 2003, a copy of the Articles of Incorporation
of The Institute
was filed and recorded with the Secretary of State, State of Louisiana.
Lawrence R. Anderson, Jr., Seale Smith Zuber & Barnette
of Louisiana, provided pro bono legal assistance to the Institute.
Additional pro bono CPA assistance was given by
Ralph Stephens, Postlethwaite & Netterville, APAC
of Louisiana, in the preparation and filing of a request to the IRS for tax
exempt (501C3) status. The IRS recently informed us that a letter of
approval may take six months. Our sincere thanks to Larry and Ralph
for their professional and expeditious attention....getting us off to an
official start!
And when it comes time for the Institute's year end financial
reports, we'll be in good shape as Kenneth Champagne,
CPA, of Baton Rouge has offered his services.
BIG EVENT OF THE Y
EAR....
You won't want to miss the Institute's National Conference,
"A Cultural Renewal of Science" organized by
the Institute and cosponsored with The Jacques
Maritain Center of the University of Notre Dame
.
Join us on Thursday, July 31 and Friday, August 1
as eight internationally known speakers reveal the profound negative impact
scientism has caused in physics, medical ethics, the humanities, theology,
university curriculum, biology, philosophy and politics. Scientism,
the misuse of the scientific method and of its conclusions, even threatens
to undermine the sciences themselves by the spread of the subjectivism that
is its natural outgrowth.
The conference will reveal the urgent need for a premiere physics undergraduate,
graduate and research institution that fully incorporates the moral, spiritual
and philosophical patrimony given us by the home of science, the Catholic
Church.
Kenneth Bickford, EATEL Sunshine Pages, of New Orleans has volunteered
to aggressively promote the conference locally, as well as assist in raising
funds for our speakers' transportation. Dr. Mark
Schneider, M.D. of Alexandria, LA and Dr. Raymond
Rizzi of Kansas City, MO are actively
promoting the work of the Institute. We appreciate Ken, Mark and Raymond's
help in getting the word out.

OUT
OF S
IGHT WEB SITE...
Our Director, Dr. Anthony
Rizzi, has pulled together in record time a
web site with lots of exciting information. A calendar of events and
a complete summer conference schedule are only a few of the links you can
visit at www.IAPweb.org
GRADUATE I
NTERNS...
On June 15, 2003,
The Institute will welcome to Baton Rouge its
first summer graduate student interns. Mark Ryland,
vice-president of the Discovery Institute, introduced
John Halpine to
Anthony Rizzi via email last fall. John is in a physics doctoral program
at Northwestern University
in Chicago. Although John is an intense student studying superfluidity
and ultra low temperature physics, he was not finding a place in his vocation
for an expression of his Catholic faith. The summer program at the Institute
will allow him to work directly with a world class physicist and scholar
of the faith. He will not only study his faith and physics simultaneously,
but he will network with other students and scientists who share his desire
to manifest God's glory through his career as a scientist.
Tom McGlaughin, faculty member at St.
John Vianney Theological Seminary in Denver,
Colorado was so excited to read about Dr. Rizzi's book,
The Science Before Science, in a July 2002
Catholic World Report article that he presents
the article as part of his philosophy course. One of his students,
Steven Titus, contacted
Dr. Rizzi directly last fall as part of his research for a paper in Professor
McGlaughlin's philosophy of science course. As an undergraduate at
Notre Dame University, Steven pursued his interest in science achieving a
B.S. in chemistry. Last fall, his research topic was to try to understand
better the nature of the atom by consciously moving beyond the empiriometric
method. He will continue this work as an intern at
the Institute.

EVERY L
ITTLE BIT
HELPS....
Do you have a laptop or desktop computer
collecting dust? The Institute would like to make a new home for it.
Please donate it to us and it will never get dusty again as our administrative
assistant and summer interns put it to good use.
Don't have a laptop but you would like to help?
Great! We are still in need of donations to sponsor one of our
summer interns or purchase the
airfare for one of our conference speakers.
Contact us at info@IAPweb.org
to help.
Can you volunteer your time and talents? We can use the
help! Write us at info@IAPweb.org
