Abstract
Throughout history symbols and metaphors have been
used in order
to explain difficult or new concepts. I will
examine this
phenomena particularly with respect to metaphors
using the natural
world. I will look at problems that can be
encountered
when such metaphors are misused to draw further
conclusions.
A concrete example will be presented relating the
phenomena of
superconductivity and the unity of marriage.
Finally, a brief
discussion on how science should be correctly
used in aiding
philosophy and how, by not contradicting science,
it can be a
guide towards the truth. (June 2003)
